flight 11 commando

Daniel Lewin, former Israeli Sayeret Matkal commando, and cofounder of Akamai Technologies, which specialized in algorithms for optimizing internet traffic.

Daniel C. Lewin, who attended graduate school at MIT, became an instant billionaire—at least on paper—in October 1999 when Akamai made its Wall Street debut.

Over the years, Akamai's customers have included Apple, Facebook, Bing, Twitter, eBay and healthcare.gov.

Akamai is a Hawaiian word meaning "intelligent" or "witty."

Ironically, the act that cost Daniel Lewin his life also demonstrated the value of the internet trafficking system he helped to develop, as the internet was besieged with requests for information from people keeping track of events and Akamai's customers were able to cope with the spike in demand.

Akamai was also successful in attracting government customers...

Akamai was using college servers to deliver content from teen-pornography web sites and help offshore gambling sites to speed content delivery.

As the global leader in Content Delivery Network (CDN) services, Akamai makes the Internet fast, reliable and secure for its customers. Our advanced web performance, mobile performance, cloud security and media delivery solutions are revolutionizing how businesses optimize consumer, enterprise and entertainment experiences for any device, anywhere.

Akamai is trusted by all branches of the U.S. military...

Akamai delivers daily web traffic reaching more than 30 terabits per second; nearly 3 trillion internet interactions each day.

Akamai has the most pervasive content delivery network (CDN)—more than 216,000 servers in over 120 countries and within more than 1,500 networks around the world.

On 9/11, there was ostensibly some confusion over the script. First, Lewin was shot. Then, Lewin was stabbed. Perhaps the original script featured hijackers with guns, and the writers realized that guns were prohibited, while small blades and knives were permitted. The revised script stated Lewin, former Sayeret Maktal commando, was stabbed by one of the hijackers. Understandably, there was some confusion in the script. Bullets turned into boxcutters (also thanks to Barbara and Ted Olson, U.S. Solicitor General, who was celebrating his birthday on September 11).

An FAA memo written on the evening of 9/11...

Screen capture of the segment of the FAA memo related to Lewin...

This unnamed official is probably Bogdan Dzakovic, a leader of the FAA's "red team" conducting covert security inspections.
